DDE COURSE BREAKDOWN

 

Axe Studios Stage & Theatre Academy is an ISTD Approved Dance Centre offering all units of the Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) for the Modern Theatre and Tap genres. Candidates suitable for DDE should have reached the age of at least 16 years or older within the year they commence study although certain units may not be taken until age 18 at the end of their course. Just fill in our enrolment form and enclose this with your photograph and audition fee (if applicable). 

Becoming a dance teacher is a true vocation and here at STA we nurture the passion and tailor our courses to suit the individual, even if you have less experience of ISTD work to start with. As long as you have the drive to teach, to improve your dance knowledge and technique and to become the best teacher you can be, we will endeavour to help you reach your goal. Here at STA we are a family and make many lifelong friendships, contacts and networks are formed, that will help you as a newly qualified teacher to go on to a long, successful and rewarding career.

Classes take place weekly on a Tuesday & Wednesday and will commence in September 2020.  You will have 2 technique classes (at Intermediate standard) and 2 sessions for subject analysis to focus on the teaching of technique syllabus.

The teaching/practical units are delivered face-to-face and all written units are delivered through short one day or two day courses or delivered online, so can be taken as a distance-learning course.

The DDE consists of the following content:

Unit 1- Level 3 - 15 uni credits

Unit 2- Level 4 - 30 uni credits

Unit 3- Level 3 - 28 uni credits (65 UCAS points for a distinction)

Unit 4- Level 4 - 30 uni credits. 

Unit 5- Level 4 - 17 uni credits

Unit 1: Preparing for Safe Teaching Candidates may be exempt from this diploma with a Trinity Diploma in Professional Dance/Musical Theatre (and some degree courses). 

Unit 2: Observing, Assisting and Teaching Practice Candidates will be required to undertake 4 lesson observations, 5 lessons in an assisting teaching capacity and leading 5 lessons of 45 mins duration.

Unit 3: Vocational Graded Examination in Dance: Intermediate Assessed through a practical exam – Candidates will be exempt if holding Intermediates in Modern and Tap with the ISTD or other recognised exam bodies.

Unit 4: Dance Practice Candidates will be assessed on the syllabus and teaching knowledge in Modern and Tap focusing on Primary to Intermediate level.

Unit 5: Social, Emotional and Cognitive Development A written unit focusing on the development of students. Candidates will be assessed via a series of online tasks.

Funding

Fees are available upon application. To offer maximum flexibility, fees are payable per module and per genre so that you can spread the cost of the training.  Learning materials (such as syllabus books) and examination fees are payable in addition to the module costs.

Entry Requirements/Application

All applicants are required to have a pass mark for GCSE English. Candidates should have a sufficient technical ability in the chosen genre/s of study and have passed or be able to pass the Intermediate Vocational examination. Candidates will be required to submit any evidence of prior learning (Intermediate report/s, certificates from qualifications etc) alongside a short interview and a video submission for each genre that Candidates wish to undertake to assess dance standard.
